FREQUENT MASONRY PROBLEMS
The lintel is used to support the brick over a window or door. Over time, the lintel becomes more and more porous and absorbs more water during inclement weather. Moisture is trapped and subject to temperature variations. Concrete is therefore prone to cracks causing corrosion of the steel reinforcement and weakening of the lintel structure.
When the lintel cracks, it can damage the bottom window and cause water infiltration. In addition, this can cause the bricks above the lintel to sag.
Replace the cracked lintel with a lintel with galvanized reinforcement.
At Maçonnerie Gratton, the lintels in cement or natural stones are tailored made for allowing all the details to be inserted, in order to preserve the authenticity of the building.
